Description

Join Cristina de Middel in Tokyo for an intensive 5-day, 120-hour creative journey, where 12 photographers will delve deep into the theme “Wanderers in Search of Wonders.” This workshop offers a rare opportunity to explore the strange, the uncanny, and the hidden beauty of Tokyo’s streets, all while challenging your photographic approach and personal style.

Playing with the concept of reality and the photographer’s capacity to visually reinvent the world around them, Cristina will guide you through her unique process, inspiring you to experiment with storytelling and push your work beyond the conventional, blending reality with reinvention.

For the two final days, you’ll collaborate with designer Ania Nałęcka-Milach and your peers to create a collective photobook dummy, encapsulating the journey and creative energy of the workshop.

This program offers:

  • Refining your photographic voice: Develop a deeper sense of your own visual identity and authorship, by honing your storytelling skills.
  • Blending documentary and conceptual photography: Learn how to break traditional boundaries and creatively combine elements of documentary and conceptual photography in your work.
  • Taking pictures daily: Develop your ability to respond to a theme by shooting daily, while continuously improving your work by integrating feedback throughout the week.
  • Hands-on photobook creation: Collaborate with designer Ania Nałęcka-Milach and fellow participants to produce a collective photobook dummy, learning the basics of photobook design and sequencing.
  • Peer collaboration & feedback: Engage in group discussions and feedback sessions, gaining insights and inspiration from Cristina de Middel and your peers.
  • Creative confidence: Leave the workshop with a renewed sense of creative energy and the confidence to take bolder risks in your photography.

Tokyo Art Book Fair
This workshop will take place during the week of Tokyo Art Book Fair and will run alongside a workshop led by Rafal Milach. Both photographers will give public talks during the week open to all workshop participants.
